Wisconsin Credit Union League leaving Pewaukee, consolidating offices in Madison

The Wisconsin Credit Union League, which has been based in Pewaukee for the past 25 years, is moving to Madison next week.

Employees of the office at N25 W23131 Paul Road in Pewaukee will be consolidated at the League’s Credit Union House and office space above it at 1 E. Main St. across from the Capitol, officially making it the state headquarters.

“Sixteen employees currently based in Pewaukee are moving to Madison, joining five who are already there,” said Christine Henzig, director of communications for the League.

The move takes the League, which is the main advocacy group for credit unions in Wisconsin, back to the city where it was founded in 1934.

Madison's Credit Union House was opened in 2008, giving credit union leaders better proximity to lawmakers and state agencies. The Credit Union House also provides a central venue for credit union meetings and events.

The League announced last year it planned to consolidate its offices in Madison in 2018 when the Pewaukee lease expired. The move is aimed at better efficiency and cohesion and improved coordination of advocacy for credit unions, the League said.

Credit unions are like banks in many ways, but they are financial cooperatives owned by members instead of stockholders.

Henzig said some employees relocating to Madison will have office hours from two to four days per week and will otherwise work remotely. 

Six other employees who live in different regions around the state — mostly compliance specialists  — primarily work remotely, so they are not counted in the total moving to Madison, she said.
