10 Verses For When You Feel Like Giving Up

When you're tired of moving forward and you feel like giving up, here are ten Scripture verses that offer strength, courage, and motivation to keep going. #GodsWord #Nevergiveup #womenlivingwell

Today we begin the 4th and final week of the 31-Day Habit Tracking Challenge! And whether you joined us for this challenge or not, I think we all have times when we feel like giving up on doing the hard things in life.

Multiple obstacles have stood in my way this month as I’ve tried to create new habits.  But this is nothing new.  Every month seems to have its own unique challenges.

My month has looked like this:  I intend to go to bed early and then one of my kids needs to stay up late studying or we get into a really interesting late night discussion and I don’t want to stop.  Then, in the morning – I’m exhausted – again.  Or I intend to eat healthy and my refrigerator is stacked with fruits and veggies but all I crave are the salty snacks from my cupboard…and I eat them!

I am currently working on a writing project that I want to complete by the time my kids are out of school – which is just two weeks away! I’m feeling the time crunch!  I also have an on-line interview that will be recorded this Friday, along with a few other fun activities on my calendar like my parents 50th Anniversary Party. Even though these are all positive things that I really love doing, they add to my stress levels and leave less room for margin.

I see some progress as I am regularly walking my dog now which is giving me (and my dog) more exercise and I have started intermittent fasting, which has helped me maintain my calorie goals. (Intermittent fasting is not a spiritual fast.  It is simply limiting your hours of eating to an 8 hour period, which for me, is usually between 11am and 7pm.)

I’m not typically one who gives up – I’m a big “finish what you start” type of girl.  But I can feel the pressure rising and the desire to want to give up, before the end of our 4 week challenge.

And so as I prayed about how I could write and encourage you all today, the one thing that came to mind was to encourage you to not give up with God’s word – rather than my word!

God is my source of strength to endure and when I feel like giving up – it is always God and His word that sustains me.  His word is alive and active and will strengthen you too!

Here’s Week 4’s Challege:

Dig Deep and Finish Strong.

Finishing strong is hard to do.  Many men in the Bible failed to finish strong.  And there’s a reason that the gym is full on January 1st and emptier by February 1st.  It’s easy to start but hard to finish. It does not happen naturally.  We have to be aware of temptations and pitfalls and not lose sight of our goals.

We have to choose to be intentional.

Do you need encouragement to keep on going and not give up?  Me too!

How did this past week go?

Personal Reflection Question: What have you learned about yourself?  Perhaps certain days of the week or times during the day are harder than others.  Perhaps you are too hard on yourself and need more grace or you are not hard enough on yourself and you need more discipline.

As we finish out the month of May, plan ahead for the month of June.  If you have a Habit Tracker, you’ll find that there is a section for month 2 and month 3. So keep it going!  If you don’t have one yet – they are available on Amazon —-> HERE.

All three have the same interior:

* Be Still * Blessed * Beautiful in its Time *

  1. Hey ☺️
    These weeks have flown by!
I struggle with acknowledging small progress…
If I actually think about it, the things I wanted to focus on, I’ve improved a bit… I’m eating healthier and feel more in control of my eating habits.
I walk the dog every day and go to the gym or do some other form of exercise at least once a week too.
Sleep wise… that’s still a struggle as I haven’t got a handle on a proper routine… mainly because with 4 kids and lots of activities – them and us – it’s a challenge as every day is different… something to work at though.
Daily specific time in prayer and study is something I’m struggling to work in too… I know that it should be a time I work “around” rather than “in”, but my best intentions seem to get sidelined by a kid off school sick, or a load of houswork and chores creeping up (because that’s another routine that needs working on ????) or any other manner of diversions… !!
So, I’m doing better with 2 of my goals ???????????? and re-focusing and being more intentional with my focus needs to happen on the other 2, or was that 3 or even 4 ????‍♀️??!!!!!
Hope everyone else is doing ok!!! Xxx

  2. Courtney, what you wrote about your plans and the way life or we “ourselves” push us off track, honestly sounds just like me describing my own life!
I’ll keep pressing on for sure! Thank you for your encouraging words.

  3. Self control is one of the gifts of the spirit along with joy and peace. It doesn’t seem to fit there. We all want joy and peace, to be long suffering, and so on. Even the words self control seems to go against the bible as we are to depend upon God and not ourselves. But the Lord loves me and you enough to give us the freedom of making our own choices. He has allowed us to be responsible for our own actions. Eating healthy has been my goal. As the bible says all things are permissible, but all things are not beneficial. So trying to eat what’s beneficial for my body. Dening myself of those empty sweet carbs that actually harm my body instead of feed my body. Yet I crave them anyway. Not giving in, trying to break the unhealthy habits of grazing, giving into temptations, which only bring guilt and feeling if failure . The enemy of my soul can beat me up over esting a piece if cake as badly as he can beat up an alcoholic who falls off the wagon. We all face our struggles. Thankfully, I can cry out to God for help to overcome any habit, any stronghold. He never laughs at me, never scoffs at me, He only takes me in His arms, tells me He loves me, and starts me anew.

    1. Thank you for this. I too struggle with eating that piece of cake! Especially this time of year with lots of graduation parties…and I’m stressed preparing for my last baby’s high school grad so I have been feeling horrible as I’ve eaten more, gained some weight this past year due to the stress of my baby graduating (always something right?! 😉 and I’ve not been exercising as I had been doing so faithfully. So yeah. I’ve been beating myself up lately. I love this scripture about how everything is permissible but not all things are beneficial. I had that verse posted on my exercise bike one time! Love it and very true. God is so good how he gives us free choice. Also I appreciate your analogy of an alcoholic and how over eating is no different truly. It’s a struggle which calls for God’s supernatural strength within us to overcome temptation. I’ve used this often with my patients to let them know that I may not struggle with alcohol or drugs but I struggle with overeating and the same God who can help me can help them too! I just need to tap in to his power which is within me!! Thanks for your words of encouragement! God bless you!

  4. Thank you, Courtney, for the encouragement. Is there a digital copy of the habit tracker (to read and fill out online)?
    Blessings on you!

  5. My tracking boxes are filling up faster, as are the journal pages. It is exciting to see improvement in areas I wasn’t really putting any focus. I’m happily looking forward to keeping up my progress in my new tracker. This is a fantastic way to keep my life moving forward. Thank you! Now I can’t imagine not opening it up every morning, so I will be ordering a new one every couple months. You have been such a blessing in my life!

  6. I love having the habit tracker, and I just bought my second one to start in June. Something about seeing that colorful chart with the boxes full really motivates me! I am doing your Ecclesiastes Study right now too, and I love it!!!

  7. Thanks , I really needed to read this today.
I have a sinus cold so I don’t feel good. I have a huge “to do list” and not sure where to start. So much to do, Easier to forget it all. While reading this I could feel my mood change for the better. I feel like it’s a slap in the face ! A slap I needed ????
    Thanks

  8. Thank You, everyone, for sharing and encouragement! I’m making progress with my goals and enjoying the habit tracker ….. such a great tool! Have already added some additional goals. THANKS, Courtney, for ALL YOU DO! Prayers go with you for those end of school and summer activities. Looking forward to Psalms for the summer. My journal arrived yesterday. BLESSINGS to All!

  9. My goals top 3 were:
    1. Health/Nutrition-working from home I tend to take a long time to at, shower and etc.
Sometimes not eating till late in the day, not showering etc.. Since beginning the Habit Track 5/3 or so. I am at least eating and tracking that. Also hoping to at least be in the gym 3 time a week and take daily walks. Having designated gym days will likely help.
    2. Time Management-I can have good intentions to create engaging posts for my social media outlets, learn how to use my newsletter program and more. Then hop online and lose track of time looking at cute videos..and such. Or have intentions to send ecards, real cards and more. Then not actually write the said cards.
    3. Getting organized-in January we cleared a storage unit, I had for years. All these month later there is still clutter hanging around that needs sorted. My thoughts are what if I simply devote 30
minutes a day to it. Then if there is more time great.

  10. This has been fun and challenging. Two steps forward and a step back on most days but making progress overall. Enough encouraging progress to keep going. Thank you for this!

  11. We all face our struggles. Thankfully, I can cry out to God for help to overcome any habit, any stronghold. He never laughs at me, never scoffs at me, He only takes me in His arms, tells me He loves me, and starts me anew.
