American Dairy Coalition leader sees silver lining in failed farm bill vote

The American Dairy Coalition’s top official says Friday’s failed House farm bill vote might help deliver changes in immigration law they need.

CEO Laurie Fischer says, “There isn’t any indication that there will be a vote this week on the farm bill but we do believe that we’ll see it come back in June.  We also believe now that we will see that the Goodlatte bill will be brought to the floor.”

Fischer says Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s Securing America’s Future Act includes his Ag Act, which allows the creation of an H-2C year-round worker visa program for agriculture.  “That is a possibility now with this bill going to a vote on the House floor, so we believe this can be, and we’re hoping, American Dairy Coalition, that this is a win-win.”

Fischer says the coalition is reviewing new language Goodlatte added to his bill over the weekend, but she tells Brownfield the majority of the big-picture items they wanted are in the bill.
