Ohio planting progress: 71% corn; 50% soybeans

Wet conditions didn’t delay planting in Ohio this week. In fact, the rain was ideal for plant emergence.

The USDA says corn is 71 percent planted and 45 percent emerged. Soybean planting is only halfway complete.

A southern Ohio farmer says corn and soybean planting is almost complete.

Greg Corcoran farms in Pike, Ross, and Scioto counties.

“We’re 80 percent planted for soybeans and closer to 90 percent planted for corn,” he says.

Statewide, oats are 89 percent planted and 73 percent emerged.

Winter wheat is 88 percent jointed, 28 percent headed, and 76 percent good to excellent.
