Corn and soybean plantings advance

U.S. corn planting has caught up with the average pace while soybean planting is ahead of normal.

As of Sunday, 81% of U.S. corn is planted, compared to 82% a year ago and the five-year average of 81%, and 50% of the crop has emerged, compared to 51% last year and the typical pace of 47%.

Soybean planting is 56% complete, compared to 50% a year ago and 44% on average, with 26% of the crop emerged, compared to 15% normally.

36% of winter wheat is rated good to excellent, steady on the week, but 16% below this time last year, with 61% of the crop is headed, compared to the usual pace of 64%.

79% of spring wheat is planted and 37% has emerged, slightly behind average.

46% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are rated good to excellent, up 3% on the week.
