Nebraska crops now ahead of normal pace

After a slow start, Nebraska’s corn and soybean crops are now running slightly ahead of their normal pace.

As of Sunday, corn planting stood at 88 percent, equal to the five-year average, but emergence, at 53 percent, was slightly ahead of normal.

Soybean planting was 68 percent complete, well ahead of the 51 average. Soybean emergence was 25 percent compared with 12 percent average.

Winter wheat condition rated 62 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and seven percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions continued to improve, with 55 percent rated good to excellent and 31 percent fair.
