Southern Michigan soggy
An ag meteorologist says parts of Michigan have received more than an entire month’s supply of rain during the first part of May which does not bode well for fieldwork.
Jeff Andresen with Michigan State University says more than six inches of rain have fallen across the lower region of the state. “In essence what we’ve had here is a whole months’ worth of rainfall in about a week and a half—very, very unusual and even on course textured, light soils—it’s brought things to a screeching halt.”
He says growing degree days are up to a week behind normal, but things are expected to warm up with slightly less precipitation.
