High soybean yields still attainable

An extension agronomist says high soybean yields are still attainable for Midwestern farmers just finishing corn planting.

But, Seth Naeve at the University of Minnesota tells Brownfield the window for maximum yields has probably shut.

“As we move forward we’re moving down that slope, and that slope is pretty flat around May 1st for a couple weeks.  But once we get out to the middle of May, things are sliding.”

Through mid-May, Naeve says soybeans can still be within 90 to 95 percent of top-end yield.

After May 15^th, growers can expect to lose around a half-percent of yield per day until the first of June.  From that point, he says yields typically drop one percent per day.
