China drops anti-dumping investigation, duties on US sorghum

The CEO of the National Sorghum Producers says they are extremely pleased that China has dropped its anti-dumping case against US sorghum.

Tim Lust says this is a win-win for US growers and Chinese customers.

“The ability to have that top customer back is certainly something that is very important,” he says. “(China customers) are excited to have the opportunity to buy US sorghum again this morning.”

In April, China placed duties of almost 179 percent on US sorghum imports as a temporary antidumping measure.

Lust tells Brownfield he is hopeful that the dismissal of duties also reflects a lessening of trade tensions with China.

“We know that this is a complicated situation and will take some time to be resolved, but this is a positive first step forward,” he says.

Tom Sleight with the US Grains Council also agrees that this is a step in the right direction for US-China trade relations.

China’s top economic advisor is in DC this week to continue trade talks.
