Jennings: best days for the ethanol industry are ahead

The CEO of the American Coalition for Ethanol says although he thinks the best days for the ethanol industry are ahead, he has never experienced such an unpredictable policy process.

“Never before have there been seven high profile meetings in the White House in a span of four months about the future of the ethanol policy,” he says.

Brian Jennings tells Brownfield he is encouraged that President Trump has repeatedly said he will consider a year-round waiver for E15.

And he says the coalition is asking the administration to allow retailers to sell the fuel sooner rather than later…

“One of the ways they could allow E15 this summer while continuing to work on the rule making, because that will take a year, is a guidance letter from the EPA to all the retailers telling to keep allowing E15 to customers,” he says.

Jennings says ACE is also asking the EPA to stop granting waivers to oil refiners that aren’t experiencing hardships.

“So we’re hoping that we can get the EPA to fix this problem and reallocate those waivers back on to the future RFS volume,” he says.

Jennings spoke to Brownfield during the Indiana Corn Growers Association’s 2018 Ethanol Forum in Indianapolis.
