Romantic Bedroom Decor with Vintage Finds

Romantic bedroom decor with a touch of vintage beauty is the topic du jour. Hello ladies, I am a bit in a French mood, comes from roaming the French countryside all week, last week. We spent a week camper van-ing in the North of France by the coast. It was beautiful and just what I needed. The area we were visiting was France at its best, all rolling hills, beautiful beaches, quaint little villages with brightly painted houses and so much chippy paint goodness. What is it with the French that they can make flaky windows, crusty fences and chippy shutters look so good. It put me right back in a bit of vintage vibe.

And I rolled with it. Especially in my bedroom….

In this new house of mine, my tastes have definitely moved away from the rustic, the vintage, the old. I have a much more modern, boho beach vibe going here. It fits the house and me much better. But sometimes my love for old and handmade creeps back in. Like when I found this gorgeous crochet bedspread at a flea market. It is destined to go into the shop, but I couldn’t help playing with it while I styled it to be photographed.

So I rounded up some more vintage, romantic items, moved the too modern bits out of sight, fluffed and foofed and I really like how it turned out. A bit of romantic bedroom decor in my otherwise modern home. The crochet bedspread is just gorgeous and in such great condition. It is a bit off-white and I think it works remarkably well with my Ikea linens. And the crochet pillows that I made from a vintage crochet bedspread that was anything but in mint condition, compliment it very well.

I pulled this all together in 15 minutes because I was supposed to be doing post-vacation laundry and grocery shopping, but inspiration had hit me. And when inspiration hits, a girl just has to listen….

It is funny how tastes evolve and how your surroundings and circumstances influence your tastes as well. I now live in an eighties house that has basically no character of its own at all. It is a standard build. Very comfortable, up with the times, and it suits me perfectly. I have added some character of my own to it and I think it is starting to really come alive. But all my vintage touches and rustic industrial elements seem out of place in this house. So without much regret I am saying goodbye to most of the things I shlepped with me from my past life. I much rather surround myself with new to me things (mostly still from the thrift store and flea market though….).  But saying goodbye sometimes takes a little time.

I really dig this romantic bedroom decor. I enjoy playing with it, photographing it and making it work. But in all honesty, it has already been packed up again. Those pillow cases and the bedspread are safely tucked away again until someone discovers them in my shop and I can pack them up to ship them wherever their next home is. And my bedroom is yet again waiting for its moment to be the center of attention. I have all the plans for it in my head. But finishing the guest room and the bathroom is higher up my list.

But I can enjoy this stylized version in pictures for now. It is a nice promise of what is to come….

  1. I’ve always wondered how chippy painted shutters and stucco that is falling apart looks charming when set I need photos of Europe but in my town it simply looks forlorn and rundown.
My style is taking a change and I need to get rid of so many things. I’m going less industrial and vintage and a bit less crafty in my decor. I’ve given my home more color with a plan for plain walls. I’m kind of sad to see all the changes but it is time. I can see why old people nestle in with their old things and their old fashioned styles!! I’m growing too old to do much diy now. It will be fun to see how your room comes together. The over your bed art that I’d never seen til yours is very popular in blog photos now! You were a trendsetter!! It looks good. I hope you did keep it. Have a nice spring.

  2. Love your bedroom like that, modern with a touch of femininity. If you love the crochet bedspread you should keep it, after all, it is your bedroom, your house.

    1. Thanks Lori,
Yes the look was nice, I enjoyed playing with it. But my style is forever changing and I do have a big need so simplify and declutter at the moment. But I know there is always the next flea market and I can continue the hunt for nice romantic and vintage things for as long as I am having fun with it.
