Community School of Naples’ Kane Aldrich, Alex Murphey and Loren Brown highlight a large number of Collier County athletes who will be competing in the FHSAA track and field state finals on Friday and Saturday.

The finals of all four classifications will take place at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

Athletes compete in the Class 1A District 8 track and field meet at St. John Neumann Catholic High School on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.

Aldrich leads the Seahawks’ trio into the Class 1A meet, making his third consecutive appearance at state.

Aldrich is the No. 1 ranked pole vaulter in Class 1A, with a vault of 4.57 meters, and will have the chance to win his third consecutive state crown.

“I’m excited to go back and be able to finish my senior season on the right note,” Aldrich said. “Hopefully I just do everything right.”

The Wake Forest commit knows he still has some tough competition to face in his final meet before having the opportunity to cap off his senior season with a three-peat.

Signing Day: Three from Community School sign

“Part of track and field is having the meets because anybody can do anything on any day,” Aldrich said. “I’m just going to go out there, jump as high as I can jump, and wherever that gets me I can be happy with it.”

Aldrich will be alongside Murphey, who is also a Wake Forest commit, Michael Chen and Alejandro Landron in the 4x100-meter relay.

In last year’s state meet, the Seahawks 4x100 relay team finished fourth.

Murphey will also compete in the 100 and 200 dashes, where he's seeded fifth and sixth, respectively.

While Aldrich and Murphey head into the state meet with experience under their belts, Brown will be competing in her first one.

“I’m nervous and excited,” Brown said. “I’m nervous because it’s a new thing, but excited because I get to experience. I’m going to try my hardest and I think I’ll have a lot of fun.”

The freshman goes into states as the top No.1 seed in the 300 hurdles and the No.2 seed in the 200 hurdles.

Brown comes into the state tournament with some momentum after setting a school record during the regional meet with a 45.31 finish in the 300-meter hurdles.

Barron Collier hurdler Tyler Mansfield hopes to add on to his strong senior campaign during his first-ever state meet.

Mansfield will compete in the 110 and 300 hurdles and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays after winning district titles in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles, and the 4x400.

Mansfield goes into the state meet seeded fifth in the 110 hurdles, 10th in the 300 hurdles, 19th in the 4x100 and 16th in the 4x400.

“Mainly the big idea is making it out of prelims in all four events,” Mansfield said. “I want to make it to the finals and give it all I’ve got in each event.”

Mansfield is joined in the 3A meet by Golden Gate junior Jouvensly Bazile. Bazile is one of two Collier County athletes that will be competing in three individual events at the state meet.

Bazile will be in the long jump, 100 and 200, and is seeded 12th, 12th and 11th in each event, respectively.

First Baptist junior Nick Tompkins is the other individual who will compete in three individual events at the state meet.

Tompkins goes into the Class 1A meet seeded fourth in the 200 dash, fourth in the high jump and 13th in the long jump.
