Feds Hit With FOIA Suit On Immigrant Vetting Documents

The Chicago Office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations accused the Federal Government in a Lawsuit Tuesday of Violating the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by Withholding Documents related to an Immigration Program that the Group says Unlawfully Targets Muslim Applicants and Delays their Naturalization as U.S. Citizens.

CAIR-Chicago asserts that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has violated the FOIA by Failing to Release Copies of Documents related to the Controlled Application Review and Resolution Program (CAARP) in a timely manner.

CAARP is a Government Vetting Program that targets Thousands of Applicants who are Muslim or from certain Muslim-Majority Countries for Delay or Denial of Immigration Benefits. This Lawsuit Challenges the use of CARRP and increased Vetting announced by President Trump in his Travel Ban Executive Orders in processing Applications for Adjustment of Status and Naturalization.
