Prep softball district roundup: Estero, Palmetto Ridge to meet for 7A-12 title
The Estero and Palmetto Ridge high school softball teams advanced to the Class 7A-District 12 championship with victories Wednesday night.
The top-seeded Wildcats routed Riverdale, 11-1, in six innings. Lauren Hobbs tossed two innings, gave up a run, drove in a pair of runs and had a homer. Katie Monzon also homered for the Wildcats and had three RBIs. Paige Carroll had a triple.
Alex Salter didn't allow a hit, walking one in four innings. She had 11 strikeouts.
Palmetto Ridge pulled out a 4-3 victory over Gulf Coast in the other semifinal on Sami Hamilton-Creel's walk-off, two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh after the Sharks had scored a pair in the top of the inning to take the lead.
The Bears' Baylee Haggard allowed four hits and three runs, striking out 13.
Markie Rosenbalm and Jaden Montalvo each had a pair of hits.
"Great team win to just show enough adversity to never ever give up," Palmetto Ridge coach Brian Creel said..
Estero will host the Bears on Friday at 7 p.m.
