FFA gives Minnesota member opportunity she never expected

The state treasurer for Minnesota FFA says the organization gives members opportunities they’d never expect.

Spencer Flood of the Dassel-Cokato chapter in central Minnesota says she was surprised to receive an invitation to be part of the National Ag Day ceremony while visiting Washington, D.C. last month.

Flood was asked to introduce Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue and had the chance to visit with Mike Pence.

“I never imagined when I put my blue jacket on six years ago that I would be introducing the Secretary of Agriculture and meeting the Vice President.  That’s when I realized that FFA truly gives our members opportunities that they never expect.”

She tells Brownfield Perdue and Pence made it clear the next generation of agriculture is important to the Trump Administration.

“They’re out there talking to people and making sure that (the U.S.) is doing the right thing in a legislative way.  But I get to work with our members and show them where their place is in agriculture and making that connection through a youth coordinator, and even me getting to meet these people was very rewarding.”

Flood is studying agricultural education at South Dakota State University in Brookings.

Brownfield interviewed Flood at the 89th Minnesota FFA Convention Monday in the Twin Cities.
