Corn planting running behind average

An ag meteorologist says last week’s winter storm across the Upper Midwest has set back corn planting for much of the Corn Belt.

“We are seeing a number of states at least 10 percentage points behind their average five-year pace.”

USDA’s Brad Rippy says Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota are among the states behind in the Midwest, with Missouri and South Dakota lagging the most.

Nationally, 5% of the corn crop is planted, compared to 15% a year ago and the five year average of 14%.”
