Missouri FFA President reaches years-long goal
The new Missouri FFA President has long maintained what he calls a service mindset. Paxton Dahmer of Nevada, Missouri fulfilled a years-long dream with his election as the State FFA President.
“Yeah, seventh grade I set the goal to just be a State FFA Officer,” Dahmer told Brownfield Ag News at the Missouri State FFA Convention in Columbia. “I didn’t ever think that I would be president, and to know that I am that now, it’s pretty awesome, but at the same time I think we can all lead effectively regardless of what our position is, and so I’m ecstatic to be the president, but at the same time I would have been happy with any office, honestly.”
As a seventh-grader, Paxton was at the state FFA Convention watching his brother accept his State FFA Degree, but paid close attention to what was said by the state officers that year.
“As a young future FFA member at that point in time I really just wanted to be like them,” said Dahmer, “so I just made sure that I had that mentality throughout my high school career and just worked really hard and it paid off.”
Dahmer plans a life of ag education with an eye toward state politics “advocating for agriculture.” For now, he raises cattle, show pigs and Australian cattle dogs while working part-time for a local veterinarian.
Paxton succeeds Abby Bertz, who has presided over the Missouri FFA for the past year.
