Willhite offered the following account:

Shreveport police were called to the 400 block of Egan Street in Shreveport's Highland neighborhood around 3 a.m. about reports of shots fired.

Officers found 33-year-old Jerett Howard with multiple gunshot wounds. Witness told police that a vehicle pulled up to Howard. The driver and Howard talked briefly before the driver open fired.

Howard was hit between 15 or 20 times in an area ranging from his chest to his ankles. He is at University Health in the intensive care unit, but is expected to survive, Willhite said.

Bill Strother, spokesperson for University Health, said Howard was in good condition.
