5 skincare necessities for business travel

a container of gold eye patchesDid you know when I started this blog I was in my late twenties? Fast forward a few years, and while I’m still traveling frequently, a lot of other things have changed. I have kids, more responsibility at work, a lot less time, and my skin needs more attention to look halfway decent.

Sigh. Gone are the days when I can throw on some tinted moisturizer and mascara and be good to go. These days I need eye cream, night cream, serum, and toner, plus a few extra steps in my makeup routine to, ahem, even everything out. And don’t even get me started about all the crud my poor skin has to deal with during travel! Dry air, multiple climates, super early flights….

It’s no wonder I had a (guy) colleague tell me recently, “Hey, you look tired. Are you okay?” Clearly I needed to update some of my skincare efforts!

It’s been a couple of months since that delightful comment, and I’ve come up with a new regimen for travel that doesn’t take too much time or space in my suitcase. People have even remarked on how great I look so it must be working. I’ll take it!

Here is my new and updated list for skincare necessities for business travel:

Garnier miceller water wipes. For nights when I arrive at the hotel too late to want to wash my face, these wipes are my new fave. They remove makeup and feel amazing, leaving my skin soft and smooth.

MISSHA Super Aqua Cell Renew Cream. If you haven’t heard about how snail slime is the latest beauty craze, here is a bit of a primer. All I know is, this stuff is amazing. I’ve had chronic redness in my t-zone for the last couple of years, and it’s much less noticeable now. Give it a try!

Milk Makeup Cooling Water. I will be honest. I don’t exactly know what this is, but if I put it under my eyes when they’re puffy they pretty quickly de-poof. If I use it on my whole face my skin looks brighter and less…..old. It’s especially awesome after an international flight.

Petitfee Gold & Snail Hydrogel Eye Patches. When my sister first told me about these I thought she was bonkers. But wow. Put the patches under your eyes for 20 minutes or so a few times a week and you’ll look like a whole different person. Okay, you’ll still look like you but way better. Plus they feel so good. I bring a couple of pairs on most trips, especially when I have very early flights.

Maybelline Baby Skin primer. You may know that I’ve had a years-long love affair with the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. Don’t get me wrong–I still love it. But this primer works just as well and is one-third the price. And while I used to wear primer only on long travel days, now I need it every darn day and appreciate the cost savings.

Bonus: For long flights I will put a heavy, moisturizing mask on at the beginning of the flight. By the time we land my skin feels dewey, rather than parched.

Readers, any business travel skincare tips to share?

  1. I’ve heard of the Hydrogel eye patches but have yet to try them. The Missha cell renew cream also looks like something I’d try. I have an essence from the Missha brand and I really like it. Korean skin care products work really well.
