Keizer shooting suspect may be headed for Tacoma area

Police are searching for an armed suspect in a shooting that left one person injured on Sunday afternoon in Keizer.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Police are searching for an armed suspect in a shooting that left one person injured on Sunday afternoon in Keizer.

The shooting took place at around noon in the 3600 block of Brooks Avenue NE in Keizer.

Neighbors who live right where the shooting happened, say they're glad no kids were hurt. They say usually, there are a lot of neighborhood kids who frequently play outside.

"They always play right here. So it's just so gracious that the kids weren't here today," said Travis Rychner who said the shooting happened in the middle of the street in front of his house.

Some neighbors say the area is usually pretty quiet.

"It just caught me by surprise. We’ve had a few issues happen out here in this part but nothing that drastic," said Bryan who lives nearby.

The suspect, 31-year-old Ryan Joel Carrera, fled the scene of the shooting in a silver 2017 Nissan Altima.

Police found the car Monday morning northeast of Salem.

Carrera might be heading to the Tacoma area in the state of Washington, police say.

A person called 911, claiming to be the friend of the victim. They told police they were driving the victim to Salem Hospital. Instead, they drove the victim to the Roadway Inn on Astoria Way NE in Salem, abandoned the vehicle and left the victim there.

The victim was suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Paramedics took the victim to Salem Hospital.

If anyone knows where Carrera is, they should call 911 immediately. Carrera is believed to be armed with a handgun and has a state-wide felony warrant for his arrest for an unrelated incident.
