Dutch Baby German Pancake Recipe with Cinnamon Apple Topping

Everything I love is in this Dutch Baby German Pancake recipe. Everything. Well, except maybe chocolate but after you make this one time, you can swap out the cinnamon apple filling for just about anything. You can't go wrong with this yummy pancake. It's more like a dessert but if we call it a pancake we can eat it for breakfast and that's winning if you ask me. I'm sharing this delicious recipe with you because I know you will love it as much as I do. And not to worry, if you don't have a cast iron skillet, you can use a glass baking dish. I'll tell you how!

Dutch Baby German Pancake with Cinnamon Apple Topping

Ingredients

3 eggs at room temperature
⅔ c. milk at room temperature
½ c. all-purpose flour
½ tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon for the dutch baby
2 apples
¼ c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon for the apples
3 tbsp. + 1 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. water

Crack three room temperature eggs into a blender. If you forgot to take the eggs out ahead of time, you can place them in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes to bring them to room temperature.
Add ⅔ of a cup of room temperature milk to the blender, and blend on low until just beginning to become frothy.

Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to the mixture in the blender.

Pour in ½ teaspoon of vanilla.

Add in ½ cup of packed all-purpose flour to the mix, and blend until it is combined well with no lumps.

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees, and let the batter rest in the blender until the oven has come to temperature.

Place a 10 inch cast iron skillet into the oven while it is pre-heating.

What if I don't have a cast iron skillet?

Not to worry, you can use a glass baking dish. You may need to cook your dutch baby longer or turn up the heat to 450 degrees and cook it for the same time. Just keep an eye on it.

Once the oven has come to temperature, remove the skillet from the oven, and place 3 tablespoons of butter into it.

As soon as the butter has melted in the skillet, pour the dutch baby batter into the skillet, and place it in the oven for 15-20 minutes.

You want to bake it until it has puffed up completely, it is completely browned on the top and crispy on the edges.

While the Dutch baby is cooking, peel, core and slice two apples.

Combine the apple slices with ¼ cup of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Toss them to coat them well in a bowl.

Place 1 tablespoon of butter into a skillet over medium high heat, and add in 2 tablespoons of water.
Cook the apples in the butter and water mixture until soft and lightly browned.

When done, take the Dutch baby out of the oven, and top it with a dusting of powdered sugar and your cinnamon apple topping.

You guys I could eat this whole thing myself and not feel even the little bit sorry about it.

Serve up a slice {make sure it's warm!} and let me know what you think!
