Report: Man in Greenville stolen vehicle case told deputies 'Mexican Drug Cartel are trying to kill him'

A Union man is facing numerous charges after a stolen vehicle case in Greenville County turned into a vehicle chase across the Upstate.

David Bruce Sanders Jr, 45, of Union, is charged by numerous agencies with reckless driving, driving under suspension, failure to stop for blue lights and receiving stolen goods.

After a lengthy chase that began in Spartanburg County and ended in York County Friday, he told authorities he was running because the “Mexican drug cartel are trying to kill him,” according to an incident report from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Greenville dispatchers first notified Spartanburg County deputies that a stolen vehicle in Greenville County was reported near Old Converse Road in Spartanburg County Friday afternoon, the report states.

Deputies spotted the white Buick and followed Sanders through Spartanburg, Union and York counties. The report states Sanders exceeded 100 mph at times during the chase and was driving erratically.

Sanders was arrested and booked into the York County jail around 8:54 p.m.
