Traveling solo with my dogs was outstanding! A must for anyone who’s ever thought about it but hasn’t tried it yet. #abucketlistmust

But before I dive in and tell you about our Just the Three of Us tour – I must explain why you haven’t heard from me in fifteen days.

It was so cold in Virginia…

….I caught the worst cold EVER while I was there! It’s taken me two whole weeks to recover.

Our journey was uneventful. I left at 3:13am as planned, and Harley started snoring before I reached the highway. Jaxson rode the hump in the middle and intermittently watched the lights bounce off the asphalt until the sun came up.

After about 90 minutes on I95 we discovered he too enjoys classic R&B 70’s music (especially Earth, Wind & Fire). #DJDoodle

WHEN NATURE CALLED – 

At 6:45am, Jaxson left me for the rear of the vehicle. With both he and Harley fast asleep, I continued rolling through North Carolina and crossed the Virginia State line around 8:00am.

The sun was up and so were the Boys – it was a good time to stop at the Welcome Center to stretch and potty.

In my earlier post I confessed my anxiety about traveling alone with two dogs and having to use the restroom. I really appreciated all your responses/suggestions. Here’s what worked best – both ways.

I –

• stopped at the Welcome Centers
• parked in the front
• left the windows open for ventilation
• locked the doors
• raced inside
• raced back out
• They walked, played and used the rest room, then we tailgated, shared an apple and some water while we people watched.

DAWN DEPARTURE BENEFITS – 

Starting a road trip before dawn affords me hours of driving time without having to entertain the Boys. For more than half of my 8 hour journey, they slept!

A healthy snack in place of a full breakfast held us over with only three hours remaining.

Years ago I fed Jaxson breakfast on a road trip and twenty minutes later he gave it all back. #notfun

We reached Fairfax, VA around 11:30am safe, happy and still liking each other #important

The Boys enjoyed their brunch and before long Harley was into yet another nap…

Before leaving for my event later that evening, I had a lil’ chat with my baby. Just wanted to make sure he would behave himself while I was gone…

EPISODIC MEMORY –

It has been more than two years since we’ve moved from the DC metro area and I was anxious to see how much they would remember…

The first place we went to should be of no surprise…

That’s right! We went to Olde Towne Pet Resort for a “Boys are Back in Town” reunion!

The next day we visited the only other neighborhood they’ve ever lived in and I can’t wait to tell you what I observed. #futurepost
