UMBC, which won the America East tournament to earn an automatic bid, lost to Kansas State in the second round.

The game with MU came about after UMBC's NCAA run and the date became available at the new arena.

Head coach Ryan Odom will need to replace key guards Jairus Lyles, K.J. Maura and Jourdan Grant from a team that finished 25-11 last season.

Joe Sherburne, a 6-foot-6 forward from Whitefish Bay, averaged 10.7 points per game last season for the Retrievers and will be a senior.

MU will return the majority of its roster from a team that advanced to the NIT quarterfinals, losing only guard Andrew Rowsey (graduation) and center Harry Froling (returned home to Australia).

The Golden Eagles' exhibition game will be played at the new arena or the Al McGuire Center depending on availability.

MU and UMBC last met on Nov. 26, 2012, with the Golden Eagles earning a 79-46 victory at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
