Let it snow? WLDB-FM brings back holiday music (briefly) to match the weather

Milwaukee's WLDB-FM (93.3) played Christmas music, including "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas," in anticipation of Wednesday's snow.

It wasn't only beginning to look a lot like Christmas in April Wednesday. During the workday, it was beginning to sound like it, too.

WLDB-FM (93.3), which has been the first station to switch to an all-Yule format the past two Christmases, kicked off a workday promotion Wednesday, playing holiday music once an hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the 10th caller when the music was playing winning a "Holiday Prize Pack to keep you warm," according to a post on the station's website and Facebook page.

The first Christmas music song the station played during the 9 a.m. hour, appropriately, was "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas," by Bing Crosby.

The other holiday-related songs WLDB played in the promotion: "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey; "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow" by Dean Martin; "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee; "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby; "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" by Andy Williams; "Feliz Navidad" by Jose Feliciano; and "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms.

Milwaukee Radio Alliance promotions manager John Schroeder described the stunt as "spur of the moment," after seeing yet more snow in the forecast. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the station had no plans for a repeat of the promotion.

Hopefully, the weather won't make the station reconsider.
