IDEM accepting nominations for 2018 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is accepting nominations for the 2018 Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence.

Julia Wickard, IDEM’s agricultural liaison and assistant commissioner for the office of program support, says the awards are Indiana’s highest level of environmental recognition.

“The governor of the state of Indiana recognizes those Indiana facilities that really go to bat to show exemplary initiative of environmental work at the organizational level,” she says.

The award is open to Indiana facilities, government agencies, individuals, and other groups that have completed environmental projects with measurable results. Previous projects have reduced waste and contributed to the economy.

Wickard tells Brownfield the award has seven categories this year, including land use and conservation.

“It could go to local soil and water conservation districts or it could go to a local nonprofit that is doing something with land use conservation soil health initiative,” she says.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. on May 7. Click here for more information.

IDEM and Indiana governor Eric Holcomb will present the awards for: energy and renewable resources, greening the government, land use and conservation, environmental education and outreach, pollution prevention, recycling and reuse, and five-year continuous improvement.

The awards will be presented at the Annual Pollution Prevention Conference in September in Indianapolis.
