Video series highlights faces of sugar policy

The American Sugar Alliance has created a new video series to help put a face on farmers impacted by sugar policy in the farm bill.

Michigan farmer Rita Herford of Sanilac County is one grower asking Congress for the current no-cost, sugar policy to be maintained in the next farm bill.  “Prices are low.  A few years ago, we didn’t make any money on the beets we raised.  I just want Congress to understand that having a market where our sugarbeets can be sold, and having a base price for us, really means a lot.  Just to know that there is some stability there for us is reassuring and we need that.”

Peter Maxwell of Hope, Darrin Siemen of Harbor Beach and Tony Moeggenberg of Bay City, Michigan are also featured as Faces of Sugar Policy, along with nearly 20 other growers from across the country, on how sugar policy affects them.
