The writing has pretty much been on the wall that the Dallas Cowboys were seriously considering parting ways with their top wide receiver Dez Bryant since the end of the 2017 season, but it finally came to fruition last week. It is finally official, #88 will be playing for a different team in 2018.
This is a decision that has caused quite a stir amongst a lot of Cowboys Nation. A lot of Cowboys fans believe it was the right move to make, while others believe it was a bit premature to move on from Dez Bryant. Personally, I'm still on the fence.
What I really found curious about this whole situation is how long it took the Dallas Cowboys to come to a decision, and the actual day they ended up informing not only Dez Bryant, but the rest of the world.
Friday the 13th!? Really?
If you don't know the significance of Friday the 13th, you must have been living under a rock. It doesn't really matter if you are superstitious or not, Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day. It's on this particular day the Dallas Cowboys decided to release Dez Bryant, one of the most emotional players I've ever seen play the game.
Now, I'm not a superstitious person by nature, but I think this could be a decision that could come back to haunt the Cowboys.
Typically when you get rid of these kind of high profile players you have a plan already in place. I'm not quite sure the Dallas Cowboys have a surefire plan in place. To me, it seems as if they are kind of flying by the seat of their pants.
Dez Bryant may have lost a step and could be starting to decline as a player, but he was still the most productive WR on the roster. Who is going to replace that kind of production in 2018? A rookie?
This is a decision that the Cowboys coaching staff believed was best for the team. A coaching staff who is on the hot seat themselves by the way. It will be interesting to see how things shake out moving forward.
Of course, this Friday the 13th decision could haunt the Cowboys in another way. Dez Bryant has already stated he would like to join one of the Cowboys division rivals so that he could play them twice a year. A vengeful Bryant isn't someone I would like to see twice year if I'm the Cowboys.
There is no way of knowing how this entire situation will end up shaking out, but hopefully it doesn't end up haunting the Dallas Cowboys for years to come. We certainly don't want to be like the Boston Red Sox when they moved on from Babe Ruth. The Curse of the Bambino haunted them for centuries.
