The Space Coast real estate market can notch up another big transaction — the $4.2 million sale of a riverfront home on Melbourne's beach side.

The sale of 3460 Riverside Dr., Melbourne, built by Christopher Burton, is the county's second largest residential home sale in Brevard County.
The $4.2 million sale was finalized Wednesday.

The sale of 3460 Riverside Drive is believed to be the county's second largest residential home sale in Brevard.

The buyer's name has not been disclosed. The owner was Christopher Burton, founder of the Melbourne-based Christopher Burton Luxury Homes.

Wednesday's closing was second in price to the current largest transaction, the $9 million sale of a nine-acre estate — nicknamed Meander estate — at 6585 South Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, in February.

"I think the sale of the property is indicative of this area no longer being a hidden secret, but the reason it's the largest sale beachside is the property was the perfect storm," said Kalli Kamholz-Ecker of Hart to Hart Real Estate.

Kamholz-Ecker represented Burton, while Gibbs Baum from Sotheby's International Realty teamed with the buyer.

"It is one of the nicest lots on Riverside Drive, matched with the top builder and it was his personal home so the attention to detail was second to none," Kamholz-Ecker said. "The buyers really loved every detail in the house, and especially the outdoors it is like being at a resort."

Burton built the 6,080-square-foot in 2015. It boasts five bedrooms and seven bathrooms on a 1.6-acre lot overlooking the Indian River.

Prior to the Burton home transaction, the second-largest residential sale was the $4 million paid in April 2015 for the estate of the late Al Neuharth, founder of FLORIDA TODAY and USA TODAY. Neuharth called the oceanfront home the "Pumpkin Center." As part of that sale, the buyers also purchased an adjacent lot from the estate for $1 million.

The 10,000-square-foot beachfront property in Cocoa Beach was destroyed in a March 5, 2016, fire and is being rebuilt.

Earlier this week FLORIDA TODAY reported on the record $2.2 million condominium sale just south of Cocoa Beach.
