Edinburgh Airport re-opens after bomb alert

It appears that Edinburgh Airport was evacuated earlier in the day due to a suspicious bag being transported by a male passenger. The link to the BBC article is here. BBC reports:

  • It is understood the authorities are working on the theory that the passenger being questioned about a suspicious package may have an innocent explanation.
  • Some passengers have been allowed to leave aircraft, although at 16:30 emergency alarms were still ringing in the terminal building.
  • Other passengers have been bussed to the Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston. About 300 people are being given food and hot drinks in the Lowland Hall, which is usually used for conferences.

The airport is now re-opened but delays will occur for the rest of the evening I suspect.

It appears that the package was found during an X-ray search but now poses no threat it has been determined.
