Grain market offering profitable margins

A grain analyst says farmers should take advantage of market drivers in recent weeks.

“We really are seeing prices that it took us until the middle of July last year to achieve in April.”

Angie Setzer with Michigan-based Citizens Elevator tells Brownfield the grain market is recovering from tariff announcements.  “We saw kneejerk reaction to the downside, but now we’re back up to levels that we were trading at prior to the announcements.”

She says Brazil has benefited from trade disputes which has also helped the U.S. basis.  “The Brazilian farmers suddenly realized that his or her beans needed to be more expensive and so you saw a significant increase in their basis.”

Setzer says if farmers are concerned by long-term market uncertainty, they should be able to lock in profitable prices for this year right now.
