The Brevard County Dental Society's "Give Kids a Smile" effort helped 129 children with free dental care.

UF prof to address Brevard County dental group

Dr. Marcio Guelmann from the University of Florida’s College of Dentistry will speak to members of the Brevard County Dental Society at 6:30 p.m. April 19 at the Holiday Inn & Suites Cocoa. Guelmann will speak on “Hot Topics in Clinical Pediatric Dentistry.”

Related to that, the Brevard County Dental Society’s released details of its “Give Kids a Smile” program in February. At that event, 16 area dentists, including specialists, saw 129 patients for free.

Services provided included exams, cleanings, X-Rays and extractions. Also helping with the effort were dental hygienists, dental assistants, and students from Eastern Florida State College and Viera High School.

New executive golf league

Play Melbourne

Play Melbourne has established a new co-ed golf league for golfers under the age of 40.

The Young Executive Golf League will play at 11 a.m. every Saturday at Crane Creek Reserve Golf Course, 475 West New Haven Ave., Melbourne. The league is open to both new and experienced golfers, and there is no fee to join. Benefits include pre-booked tee-times and networking with peers.

Drug ‘Take Back Day’ program

Health First is helping law enforcement with a drug return program on April 28.

Health First is again partnering with the Cocoa Beach Police Department, the Palm Bay Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to provide an opportunity for the public to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28 and locations will be Health First’s three community hospitals:

  •  Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital (Medical Office entrance), 701 W. Cocoa Beach Causeway, Cocoa Beach
  •  Health First’s Palm Bay Hospital (Physician Office entrance), 1425 Malabar Road NE, Palm Bay
  •  Health First’s Viera Hospital (hospital main entrance), 8745 N. Wickham Road Melbourne 

Health First will accept pills, liquids, ointments and lotions. Medications may be kept in the original packaging, container or placed in a sealed plastic bag. No IDs or signatures are required.

This event cannot accept syringes, asthma inhalers, drugs in aerosol canisters or chemotherapy drugs, either in IV liquid or oral form. All medications will be turned over to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration for discarding.
