Former UW basketball and football players set for charity hoops event

MADISON – University of Wisconsin fans can relive past glory and support Easter Seals of Wisconsin this week.

Eleven former UW men’s basketball players and 16 former UW football players are scheduled to participate in the first Easter Seals Wisconsin Celebrity Basketball challenge, set for 5 p.m. Saturday at Madison College, 1701 Wright St. 

The list of former basketball players scheduled to appear includes current UW assistants Howard Moore and Joe Krabbenhoft; Brian Butch, an associate coach with the Wisconsin Herd in the NBA G League; and 2000 Final Four participants Roy Boone and Dave Mader. 

The list of former football players scheduled to participate includes quarterback John Stocco, wide receiver Brandon Williams, linebacker Mike Taylor, tailbacks Brian Calhoun and John Clay; and linebacker/tight end Andy Crooks.

Tickets cost $5 for students and $10 for adults.  

Former UW men’s basketball assistant coach Gary Close is scheduled to hold a skills academy from 3 to 4:30 p.m. 

Cost for that event is $20 but also includes admittance to the basketball game. All proceeds from the event go to the Easter Seals of Wisconsin, which strives to aid individuals with disabilities.
