The Local Pub and Eatery plans its grand opening at Stone Creek Cove in Anderson

Shane and Sarah Dowler have been waiting for this moment for 10 years.

On Wednesday, the Dowlers will open a restaurant that was their vision from start to finish. A restaurant where the menu is theirs, the decor is theirs and the clientele all theirs. 

The Local Pub and Eatery at Stone Creek Cove on Providence Church Road is ready for business and it's a showcase of everything Shane and Sarah have learned over the last 20 years in the Anderson food service industry.

"We wanted to make the most of everything we have learned in our years in Anderson," Sarah said while sitting in on the couch at the top of the stairs that welcomes guests to the top dining room at The Local. "Shane's work behind the bar and my work coordinating front and back of the house came together into exactly what we wanted."

What they wanted, Sarah said, was a casual place where couples on date night, friends right off the lake and large families or groups could come together and feel comfortable eating approachable and impressive cuisine. The menu is a mix of everything from classic bar fare like wings and jalapeno potato poppers to fast-casual dishes like pizza and deli sandwiches to fine-dining entrees like Korean lettuce wraps, grilled watermelon salad and shrimp and scallop carbonara. 

It's food that was inspired by their home countries of England and Ireland, as well as American-inspired hamburger steaks or chicken and waffles. And as the owners of the Uptown Lounge in downtown Anderson, they also brought their signature burgers. 

"The Uptown is it's own entity and was even before we owned it," Sarah said. "But this is something we could do from Shane's bar design to my space outside on our three decks."

Sarah is especially proud of the outdoor space at The Local. The restaurant is right off the lake and there is public access from a nearby dock directly to the building. The decks can seat up to 120 people on custom-made tables. There also is a large grassy area off the decks for special events, catering and weddings. 

The bar will be on the lower level of the building and include access to it's own deck. The full bar will serve serve four beers on tap as well as around 30 beers in bottle and can. There will also be a large wine selection and a specialty cocktails like refreshing cucumber and lime creations or a unique strawberry mojito. 

The restaurant is non-smoking inside and there will only be smoking allowed outside on the deck adjacent to the bar. Even the upper decks outside will be non-smoking, Sarah said. 

The Local Pub and Eatery opens Wednesday, April 4. On April 14, the Anderson Chamber of Commerce will come out for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening which will also feature live music, giveaways and drink specials. 

"We hope to show people from Anderson, Hartwell, (Ga.), Townville and all over the area that this is worth the trip," Sarah said. "The views are beautiful, the food is great and we are going to have great events coming up all year long."

The Local will also offer online ordering that can be delivered to the boat dock or can be picked up from the restaurant. The full menu will be available through online orders and that can be found at thelocalpubandeatery.com. 

The restaurant will be open from 4-10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 4-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. They will be closed Sunday through Tuesday. It is located at 1500 Providence Church Road in Anderson.
