Conaway forges ahead on new Farm Bill

House Ag Committee chairman Mike Conaway plans to move the new Farm Bill ahead without Democrat counterparts.

Conaway released a statement saying he’s disappointed Ranking Member Collin Peterson has led his team to a point of refusing to negotiate because of Republican proposals to change eligibility requirements in the nutrition title.

Accusing Democrats of turning their backs on Rural America in the midst of a 5-year recession in the farm economy, Conaway says he has a job to do with or without them.

Peterson says his party is unanimously opposed to the SNAP policies being advocated by the Majority, calling the proposed changes partisan and extreme.

Conaway says he continues to work in good faith, crafting a bi-partisan, budget-neutral, common-sense Farm Bill.
