When the local bar hangout in Powdersville was rumored to be closing, salon owner Keshia Moore looked into buying it. With few places for folks in Powdersville to get a drink after work or a cocktail on the weekends, Moore debated giving the people what they wanted.

Unfortunately, she says, that didn't come to pass. But what did, she said, ended up being a million times better when Moore opened the Powdersville Pub on March 16.

From the time the opening was announced and through this first week of business, Powdersville Pub has been packed. The bar offers a full menu of mixed drinks, beer and wine starting at 3 p.m. each day, except Sunday, in an atmosphere that Moore said was missing from her home for the past 13 years.

"Having the salon for 13 years, Powdersville had been seeing great growth in the last year," Moore said. "But those working people needed a place where they could unwind at the end of a busy day or week."

With whiskey bottle lights dangling from the ceiling and pool tables in the center of the place, Powdersville Pub is rustic with a welcoming feel. The wood decor came from an old barn that burned, and the customer base is a mix of regulars and newcomers curious about what the community has to offer.

Moore said that in the first week, she already has around 50 regulars who have come through the door almost every day. She has started partnering with local restaurants like Huddle House and Southern Smoke BBQ for her customers' food needs and plans to offer things like karaoke, trivia and live acoustic music soon.

The establishment is nonsmoking, with designated smoking areas outside. That, she said, is in line with the way Powdersville seems to be going and she wanted to stay ahead of the curve.

And though Moore is new to the bar business, she said that a place like Powdersville is the perfect place to learn.

"The people are good and want to help each other," she said. "Even with all the growth and the new restaurants, people realize that if one succeeds, then everyone can succeed."

Powdersville Pub is open from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays. It is open from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays. The pub is at 112 Halter Drive, Suite G, in Powdersville.
