Participants in this week’s Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) trade mission to China say there is an “uneasiness” among soybean buyers in China because of trade tensions with the U.S.

“Certainly, the industry and our customers—COFCO and the feed millers and the soy crusher today—are hopeful that soybeans do not get caught up in, as they call it, ‘the politics of trade’,” said Kirk Leeds, CEO of the Iowa Soybean Association.

But at the same time, Leeds said, “all of the industry people we talked to were somewhat skeptical that soybeans would actually end up being one of the targets—but I guess we shall see.”

The delegation held a conference call with reporters during a stop in Wuhan, China.
