Survey shows another increase in Iowa farmland values

Iowa farmland realtors report land values are up nearly three percent since last September and five percent higher than one year ago.

Kyle Hansen of Hertz Real Estate, who coordinates the biannual survey, says there’s “a growing disconnect” between land values and its income producing potential. But he says it’s basic supply and demand.

“We haven’t had a lot of land on the market the last several years, so our supply has been very tight—and our demand just seems to continue to grow,” Hansen says.

Farmers continue to be the main buyers of farmland, about 80 percent of the time, Hansen says.

The survey is conducted by the Iowa Chapter of the Realtors Land Institute.
