McDonald’s to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

McDonald’s says by the year 2030, it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 36 percent to address global climate change.

The hamburger chain says it will work on the largest segments of its carbon footprint, including beef production, energy usage, packaging and waste.  The restaurant chain says those account for about two-thirds of its emissions.

McDonald’s says, among other things, it’s working on beef production sustainability, including well-managed grazing and protecting waterways.

The hamburger chain says the efforts will prevent 150 million metric tons of greenhouse gas from being released into the atmosphere by 2030. It’s the equivalent of taking 32 million cars off the road for a year.
