Minnesota Pork Board working with consumer science teachers

The Minnesota Pork Board is working with family and consumer science teachers to raise awareness about pork.

Pam Voelkel, director of events for the Pork Board, says Minnesota middle and high school educators have access to pork-specific curriculum.

“It teaches them about pork.  Different cuts of pork, how they can go shopping for pork, things they should look for with pork, and how to cook pork.  So it’s a great way for them to have some materials in their classroom that they can utilize.”

She tells Brownfield it’s important to get pork into the hands of next-generation consumers.

“(we’re) Hoping that they’re going to get a better idea of how to cook pork (and) not being afraid of overcooking it, or not knowing how to cook pork.  And giving them recipes they can use in the future as well.”

The Pork Board provided resources during the Minnesota Family and Consumer Science Teachers Conference in Rochester last month.
