Ethanol motorcycle to be featured on American Choppers

The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) is partnering with a reality tv show to dispel myths about the compatibility of ethanol and motorcycles.

RFA vice president of industry relations Robert White says when the Discovery Channel brings back American Choppers later this year, the series will feature a custom ethanol bike.

“What we’ve seen over the past few years is a very coordinated campaign to confuse the issue of ethanol in motorcycles.  And the goal of this program is to grab a broad audience and simply explain to them the benefits of ethanol in general, but also clarify that it can work and works well in motorcycles.”

White points out for more than three decades ethanol blends of 10 percent and below have been approved by every motorcycle manufacturer.

He tells Brownfield the bike designed by American Choppers star Paul Jr. will likely run on E-85.

“We anticipate one, if not two episodes within the first six episodes of the new series, which starts at the end of May.  We’re probably looking at a late June, early July (time frame) just in time for Sturgis.”

White says the ethanol chopper will be unveiled this Saturday at East Kansas Agri-Energy, an ethanol plant in east-central Kansas.

  • Fact Check – American Chopper (Paul Jr. Included) built two (2) choppers over 10 years ago that ran on ethanol. One for Iowa corn growers and one for Fagen, Inc., the largest Design/Builder of Renewable Energy Facilities in North America. You will not find a more loyal promoter of the ethanol industry than the Fagen Family. They also had an Xtra 300 Aerobatic Airplane which flew on ethanol at over 20 Airshows annually to promote ethanol as a clean burning homegrown fuel.
