Senators keep pressure on Trump over RFS

Corn-state senators are keeping the pressure on President Trump to resist making changes to the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Five Republican senators—Grassley and Ernst of Iowa, Fischer of Nebraska, Blunt of Missouri and Thune of South Dakota—sent a letter to Trump last week amidst rumors that he is considering a plan to cap of the price of Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs). The senators warned Trump that the consequences of such a move “would be severe and dramatic across the Midwest”.

Grassley also sent a Twitter message directly to Trump, saying a RINs cap would be “catastrophic” to ethanol.

The senators also requested another meeting with Trump to discuss the issue. A March 12th White House meeting on biofuels policy was cancelled and it’s unclear if or when that meeting will be rescheduled.
