Michigan soybean leader worries about trade policy

David Williams says he has been concerned for a long time about trade and the North American Free Trade Agreement in particular.  “I was disappointed when TPP (the Trans-Pacific Partnership) went away,” Williams, president of the Michigan Soybean Association, told Brownfield Ag News at Commodity Classic in Anaheim.  “I think we’re just giving away some of our opportunities.”  Williams fears losing U.S. trading partners, and said, if that happens, “I’m not quite sure what we’ll do with all of our production.”  On the other hand, Williams says he was pleased that U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced streamlining that will help farmers navigate government programs.
