New mentor program for Michigan dairy farmers

Michigan’s dairy checkoff has created a new mentor program to help young farmers prepare for future leadership roles.

Jolene Griffin with the United Dairy Industry of Michigan tells Brownfield the Board Mentor Program has selected five farmers to participate in this year’s pilot.  “These are folks who have a lot of passion for dairy and we want to make sure that we’re helping them and using that passion to connect with consumers and promote the good products that we have.”

She says mentees are interested in dairy promotions and will attend board meetings and promotional programs in the next year to gain a better understanding of the work of the checkoff.

Participants include Jason Griffin of Hastings, Kent Inniger of Middleton, Abigail O’Farrell of West Branch, Katelyn Packard of Manchester and Sanne Van Loon of Saint Louis.
