Former Packers WR Jordy Nelson joining Raiders

GREEN BAY - Jordy Nelson didn't last long on the NFL free-agent market.

The veteran wide receiver, released Tuesday by the Green Bay Packers, signed Thursday with the Oakland Raiders, the team announced.

Nelson, who turns 33 in May, also reportedly drew interest from the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints.

According to reports, Nelson received a two-year deal worth $15 million, with $13 million guaranteed.

The news was first reported by former Packers wide receiver James Jones, now an NFL Network analyst.

The Raiders cleared roster and salary-cap room for Nelson by releasing receiver Michael Crabtree.

In Oakland, Nelson will be reunited with former Packers offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett and tight end Jared Cook. Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie was a Packers front-office executive under former GM Ted Thompson, and Raiders coach Jon Gruden is a former wide receivers coach for the Packers.

In 2017, Nelson endured the worst season of his career since becoming a significant contributor in 2010. Nelson had 53 catches for 482 yards (9.1) and just six TDs after leading the NFL with 14 TD catches in 2016, when he also had 97 receptions for 1,257 yards (13.0).

Nelson failed to top 100 yards in any game and had three or fewer catches eight times. Nelson struggled to gain separation from cornerbacks and finished 153rd in yards after the catch with 2.5 per reception.

Green Bay doesn't play Oakland in 2018, but the Raiders are scheduled to visit Lambeau Field in 2019.
