Conservation focus of Farm Bill listening session

US Senator Joe Donnelly says many farmers and landowners are urging Congress to support the conservation title in the 2018 Farm Bill.

“They want to make sure the funds will be there for the conservation programs in the Farm Bill,” he says.

Donnelly hosted a Farm Bill listening session this week in west central Indiana with farmers, conservationists, and representatives from Ducks Unlimited.

Kyle Rorah, a government affairs representative with Duck’s Unlimited, says the conservation programs in the Farm Bill benefit farmers and the land.

“The Farm Bill really allows landscape level conservation to take place and provides the incentives for landowners to really incorporate those practices into their business model,” he says.

Donnelly has hosted 11 listening sessions around the Hoosier state. He says hearing from all the different ag groups is the best way to put a good Farm Bill together.

Ducks Unlimited is a nonprofit that conserves, restores, and manages wetlands and habitats for waterfowl.
