Brewers announce signings and the first round of camp cuts

PHOENIX - It was a busy Friday for the Milwaukee Brewers' front office, as a flurry of signings and roster moves were announced.

Agreeing to terms for the 2018 season were: catchers Jett Bandy and Jacob Nottingham; outfielders Keon Broxton, Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana; and pitchers Zach Davies, Oliver Drake, Brent Suter and Tyler Webb.

The contract of third baseman Travis Shaw was also renewed, leaving all players on the team's 40-man roster under contract.

The team also announced that Nottingham, Mauricio Dubon and pitchers Marcos Diplan, Adrian Houser, Jorge Lopez, Freddy Peralta and Tyler Webb were optioned to minor-league camp and pitchers Corbin Burnes, Erik Davis, Luis Ortiz and Jon Perrin were reassigned to minor-league camp.

"For a large group of the guys, this was about experiencing spring training, putting yourself around big-league players, see how they prepare, see how they work," manager Craig Counsell said. "Now, take it to your minor-league season and build on it, and use it to make yourself a better player.

"For a lot of those guys, it's not a disappointing day. It's just a day where you start the rest of your season. It's a day for the pitchers to start getting innings on a regular schedule, which they need to do.

"It was a good experience, hopefully, for those guys."

With the moves, 45 players remain in major-league camp.
