Brewers pitcher Chase Anderson gets a new ball and hands over the broken bat Arizona Diamondbacks Jarrod Dyson in a game Thursday at Maryvale Baseball Park.

On the field:  A seven-run sixth inning with Aaron Wilkerson and Ernesto Frieri on the mound did in the Brewers in an 11-6 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Maryvale Baseball Park on Thursday.

Milwaukee did rack up 12 hits, with Manny Piña homering twice and driving in four runs and Travis Shaw homering for the third time in his last two games.

"The last two days have been good," Shaw said of his recent hot spell. "I'm just searching for a rhythm. I'm honestly not looking for results right now; just trying to hit the ball hard."

The Brewers held a 6-4 lead before the blowup sixth. Wilkerson allowed six hits and five runs in 1 1/3 innings, and Frieri one hit, two runs and two walks in 2/3 inning.

Starter Chase Anderson surrendered five hits (including consecutive homers) and four runs in 3 2/3 innings but said it was the best he's felt physically all spring.

"All my pitches were working," he said. "I think I just got a little tired that last inning and left a couple pitches up (for the homers)."

Also, Ryan Braun was absent from camp due to illness, and reliever J.J. Hoover has been under the weather as well. Several camps have been hit hard by the flu in Arizona, particularly the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"We're trying to contain it," manager Craig Counsell said. "Last year was a pretty good year, but the years before we had some problems."

Weather: 78 degrees, partly cloudy.

Cactus juice: The Brewers clubhouse has been a jovial place this spring, with a good mix of veterans and younger players helping keep things loose.

On Thursday it was catcher Stephen Vogt who had his teammates in stitches, as he broke out his well-known impersonation of a basketball referee.

"I’ve seen it before on TV," Counsell said. "But for the first time for us, as a private audience, Stephen Vogt did his basketball referee impersonation as we’re on the brink of March Madness.

"It was absolutely brilliant. He locked up half the room."
