South Dakota man guilty of grain theft

A Mount Vernon man entered a no contest plea this week to a charge of stealing more than $400,000 worth of grain.

The Mitchell Daily Republic reports that over the course of five years, Scott and David Estabrook’s hired hand Merle Northrup sold his employers’ corn and soybeans to the elevator and ethanol plant and kept the money.

Northrup’s sentencing is in April.
