Alltech founder Lyons ‘a visionary entrepreneur’

Alltech founder and president, Dr. Pearse Lyons died Thursday, March 8 from an acute lung condition following heart surgery. He was 73.

Lyons formed Alltech through his application of yeast technology in animal nutrition.

“Dr. Lyons was a visionary entrepreneur who transformed the agriculture industry,” said Alric Blake, CEO and treasurer of Alltech.

A statement from the company says Lyons’ son, Dr. Mark Lyons will become the chairman and president of Alltech.

Funeral masses are planned for Lexington, Kentucky, where the company is based, and later in Lyons’ native Ireland.
